THE PRIDE OF THE SOIL: OLU OF IGBO-ORA HAILS PROF. PETER OLAPEGBA’S APPOINTMENT AS 14TH VC OF UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN

The Palace of the Olu of Igbo-Ora Land is aglow with joy as His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Olajide Titiloye, Asoroolu Ayinla V, Permanent Chairman, Ibarapa Central Traditional Council and Deputy Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, congratulates one of the town’s most distinguished sons, Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba, on his appointment as the 14th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.

The University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university and Africa’s foremost institution of higher learning, has chosen a son of Igbo-Ora to lead its next chapter.

In a statement released by the Palace on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, the revered monarch described the appointment as a landmark achievement that has brought immense honour, pride, and distinction to Igbo-Ora, the entire Ibarapa region, and Oyo State.

“Professor Olapegba’s emergence as the Chief Executive of our nation’s oldest and most prestigious university is a well-deserved recognition of his exceptional scholarship, exemplary leadership, impeccable character, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence and national development,” Oba Titiloye stated.

The Royal Father noted that the appointment further reinforces Igbo-Ora’s enduring reputation as a land blessed with exceptional men and women who continue to excel in leadership, education, public service, and other spheres of human endeavour.

According to him, Professor Olapegba’s remarkable feat serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the younger generation, reminding them that diligence, integrity, discipline, and the pursuit of excellence remain the surest pathways to greatness.

Oba Titiloye expressed absolute confidence in the capacity of the new Vice-Chancellor to provide visionary and transformative leadership that will consolidate the University of Ibadan’s reputation as a global centre of academic excellence, groundbreaking research, innovation, and character development.

The monarch prayed that Almighty God would grant Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba abundant wisdom, sound health, divine guidance, strength, and grace to pilot the affairs of the University of Ibadan to even greater heights of achievement and international acclaim.
