Igboora is set to witness a youth-focused empowerment initiative as the Federation of Igboora Students’ Union (FISU), under the leadership of its President, Akadri Quyyum Adewale, prepares to host a Youth Skills Acquisition and Drug Abuse Prevention Programme on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The programme, organised by the Office of the FISU National Vice President, Idris Sofiat Omotolani, is designed to equip secondary school students and young people with practical skills, promote self-reliance, and raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and substance misuse.

With the theme, “Building Skills, Creating Opportunities and Making Healthy Choices for a Better Future,” the initiative reflects the union’s commitment to youth development, skills acquisition, and the promotion of a healthier and more productive society.

The event is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. at the Igboora Community Town Hall, Igboora, and is expected to attract traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders, education advocates, and other distinguished personalities.

The programme seeks to address two critical challenges confronting young people: limited access to productive skills and the growing concern over drug abuse and substance misuse. Through empowerment activities, sensitisation, and expert-led discussions, participants are expected to gain valuable knowledge to help them make informed decisions, explore opportunities, and build a more promising future.

Among the dignitaries expected at the programme are traditional rulers from Ibarapa Central, the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Olusola Adeleke, and the Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government, Hon. Lateef Akorede.

Also expected are Chief Mrs. Alhaja Fasasi Faidat, who will serve as the Mother of the Day; Mr. Kareem; and Prince Tayo Akinyemi, alongside other distinguished guests and community leaders.

Their anticipated presence underscores the importance of collaboration among traditional institutions, government officials, community leaders, and educational stakeholders in addressing challenges facing young people and creating an environment where they can thrive.

The involvement of these stakeholders is also expected to strengthen conversations around youth empowerment, responsible living, and the need to provide young people with opportunities to develop useful skills and contribute meaningfully to society.

The programme will feature Mrs. Sikirullahi Simisola, Mr. Arowosegbe Peter Dipo, and Akomolafe Adekola Ismaila, the NDLEA Area Commander in Igboora, as guest speakers.

The speakers are expected to share their knowledge and expertise on skills acquisition, youth development, personal responsibility, and the dangers associated with drug abuse and substance misuse. Their contributions will provide participants with valuable insights into the importance of acquiring practical skills, making informed life choices, and avoiding behaviours that could jeopardise their health, education, and future prospects.

The participation of the NDLEA Area Commander is particularly significant, as the programme seeks to strengthen awareness of the consequences of substance misuse and encourage young people to make healthier decisions.

Through these discussions, the organisers aim to inspire participants to embrace productive ventures, develop positive habits, and recognise the importance of personal discipline in achieving their academic, professional, and personal goals.
