Renowned Igboora Fuji Legend, Monsuru Ajagbe is Dead

Veteran Fuji musician and one of the foremost ambassadors of Igboora music, Alhaji Monsuru Ajagbe, is dead.

The music icon passed away on Sunday, 13th September, 2026, and was buried according to Islamic rites at his family home in Amogangan Compound, Igboora, Oyo State.

Alhaji Ajagbe came into the limelight in the early 1980s. He began his musical journey as a ‘Gangan drummer’ under the legendary Bashiru Alani Fuji Composer before establishing his own Fuji band.

Throughout his career spanning over four decades, he was known not just for his unique voice and mastery of Fuji rhythms, but also for using his music to preach unity in Igboora and Ibarapa land.

Some of his most celebrated albums include “Determination” and “Good Friend”— records that remain evergreen and are still played at social gatherings across the South-West.

Beyond the stage, Baba Ajagbe was a strong pillar of the Fuji fraternity.

He served diligently as a member of the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), later becoming the *Chairman, FUMAN Ibarapa Chapter, and eventually, President of FUMAN, Igboora chapter.

Tributes have continued to pour in from fellow musicians, fans, and community leaders who described him as “a unifier, a disciplinarian, and a proud son of Igboora who used his talent to promote culture and peace.”

The death of Alhaji Monsuru Ajagbe marks the end of an era for Fuji music in Ibarapa land.
