IGBO-ORA STUDENTS ’ UNION ENGAGES POLICE, NDLEA IN STRATEGIC SECURITY AND DRUG-ABUSE AWARENESS VISIT

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening community safety and youth development, the leadership of the Federation of Igbo-Ora Students’ Union (FISU), National Body, on Thursday 15th of January 2026, paid an official courtesy visit to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)/WADA CDS Office, Ibarapa Central Axis.

The delegation, led by the President of the union, Aare Akadri Quyum Adewale, described the visit as part of ongoing efforts to foster a cordial and collaborative relationship between students and security agencies while addressing critical issues affecting youths within the axis.

During the engagement at the DPO’s office, discussions centred on youth safety, crime prevention, and the rising concerns around insecurity in the community. The student leaders highlighted challenges faced by young people and sought practical guidance on promoting security consciousness among students.

Responding, the DPO reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and property, while encouraging students to see security agencies as partners in progress. He also outlined ways through which students can support intelligence gathering and community policing initiatives.

At the NDLEA/WADA CDS office, the Area Commander for Ibarapa Central Axis, Mr. Akomolafe Adekola Ismail, delivered a stern but enlightening talk on the dangers of drug abuse. He warned youths against substance use, describing it as a major threat to their future, academic pursuits, and societal development. The commander also shared preventive tips and strategies for avoiding environments and influences that encourage drug abuse.

The meetings were marked by open dialogue, mutual respect, and constructive exchanges, as both the student body and security agencies expressed readiness to sustain collaboration in the interest of community peace and youth empowerment.

Speaking at the end of the visit, the FISU leadership expressed appreciation to the DPO and NDLEA officials for their warm reception and insightful contributions, noting that the discussions would positively impact students and the wider community.

The union reaffirmed its commitment to responsible student leadership and pledged continued partnership with relevant security agencies to promote a safe, drug-free, and secure Igbo-Ora and Ibarapa Central at large.
