IGBOLE DESCENDANTS CELEBRATE OLAPEGBA’S  APPOINTMENT AS UI VICE-CHANCELLOR, CONFER BOT MEMBERSHIP AND AWARD OF RECOGNITION

The Igbole Descendant Development Union (IDDU) has celebrated the appointment of an illustrious son of Igbole, Ibarapa land, Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba, as the 14th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI).

The celebration was marked by a courtesy visit by members of the Union to Professor Olapegba on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Ibadan, where the delegation congratulated him on his appointment and honoured him for bringing pride and recognition to the Igbole community, Ibarapa, and Oyo State.

The delegation was led by the Union Chairman, Comrade Raji Saminu, FCA.

During the visit, the Union formally presented Professor Olapegba with his Appointment Letter as a Member of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Igbole Descendant Development Union, further recognising his status as one of the distinguished sons of the community.

Adding to the celebration, Comrade Raji Saminu, FCA, alongside Elder Ogunleti Azeez, presented an Award of Recognition to the Vice-Chancellor in honour of his outstanding academic achievements and his contribution to the reputation and development of Igbole and the wider Ibarapa community.

Speaking during the visit, the Union Chairman, Comrade Raji Saminu, FCA, congratulated Professor Olapegba on his appointment, describing it as a landmark achievement and a source of immense pride to Igbole descendants both at home and abroad.

He prayed for a successful tenure for the Vice-Chancellor, wishing him wisdom, innovation, sound leadership, and academic excellence in the discharge of his responsibilities.

“Your appointment is a landmark achievement and a source of pride for all descendants of Igbole, both at home and abroad. We are proud of your accomplishments and confident that your tenure will bring further honour to our community and the University of Ibadan,” the Chairman said.

Responding, Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba expressed his profound appreciation to the Igbole Descendant Development Union for the visit, prayers, goodwill, appointment into the Union’s Board of Trustees, and the Award of Recognition.

The Vice-Chancellor thanked the Union for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to uphold the values of service, integrity, and excellence in his new position. He also expressed his commitment to using his office to contribute meaningfully to the growth and advancement of the University of Ibadan while creating opportunities that could positively impact his community.

The Igbole Descendant Development Union, through the visit, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Professor Olapegba in his new role and strengthening collaboration between the University of Ibadan and the Igbole community for the advancement and mutual development of both institutions and the people.
