There was nationwide relief on Friday, 10th July 2026 as pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State were rescued and reunited with their families, bringing an end to days of anxiety across the state.

The victims, in a video released by the Presidency shortly after their freedom, expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, security agencies, and the Oyo State Government for the coordinated efforts that led to their safe return.

In the emotional video, the Principal of the school, speaking on behalf of the victims, thanked the President for his personal commitment.

“We are grateful, Mr President, sir. We are grateful. We understand your commitment to our safety, and we appreciate all you did for us. We could see it in your heart. Thank you very much,”she said.

She also commended the security operatives who carried out the operation:
“And every security operative tried so much and that is why we are still alive now. We are very grateful to you. Thank you very much. Thank you, sir. Thank you, sir. God bless you, sir. God bless you, sir. Thank you, sir.”

JOINT EFFORT PAYS OFF
The rescue comes after days of joint operations involving the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and local security networks, with both the Federal Government and Oyo State Government providing intelligence, logistics, and support to secure the release of the victims.

Governor Seyi Makinde had earlier directed full cooperation between state security outfits and federal agencies, while also providing welfare support for families of the abducted persons during the period of captivity.

President Tinubu had equally assured that no effort would be spared in securing the release of the victims and in strengthening security around schools in vulnerable areas.

COMMUNITY REACTION
Investigation by Asako news revealed residents of Orire LGA trooped out in celebration on Friday as news of the rescue spread. Traditional rulers, parents, and education stakeholders described the development as “a victory for collective resolve” and called for sustained measures to prevent a recurrence.

GOVERNMENT PLEDGE
Security sources confirmed that the rescued pupils and teachers are receiving medical attention and psychosocial support. Authorities say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and dismantle the network behind the abduction.

With this rescue, the Federal and Oyo State governments have reiterated their commitment to protecting schools and communities across Oyo State.

Asako News will continue to monitor updates on the victims’ rehabilitation and the security response in Orire local government.
