“RESPECT YOUR PARENTS EVEN IF THEY ARE UNBELIEVERS” – CLERIC TELLS MUSLIMS AT ALABERE’S 2ND YEAR FIDAU

It was a day of sober reflection, prayers and eulogies in Idofin, Igboora, on Saturday, 29th August, 2026, as family, friends and associates marked the 2nd year remembrance of the late Veterinary Medical Doctor, Alhaji Dr. Suraj Adesina Alabere.
A special Islamic prayer session, Fidau, was organized by his widow, Alhaja Aminat Adesina, and children at the family residence to honour the memory of the departed.
Delivering the sermon after the prayers, the Guest Lecturer, Fadilat Sheikh Alhaji AbdulRoheem Ali Akewukewe, spoke extensively on the ‘Virtues of Parents’.
Quoting the Qur’an, he said:
“Even if your parents are unbelievers, Allah commands us to respect them as part of our service to Allah.”
The cleric used the occasion to admonish women to be submissive to their husbands, citing Alhaja Aminat Adesina as an example of a virtuous wife.
He said women who are steadfast and obedient will receive rewards like the wives of great men in Islamic history such as Khadijah, wife of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and the wife of Pharaoh.
Sheikh Akewukewe also eulogized the late Dr. Suraj Alabere, describing him as a man who projected good legacies into the lives of his dependants during his lifetime as an act of Ibaadah.
According to him, those good deeds are now the only connection between the deceased and Allah.
He urged all present to engage in good works while alive, noting that it is the only profit that follows every soul after death.
The prayer session drew a large turnout of Islamic leaders and community dignitaries from across Oyo State.
In attendance were Chief Imam of Igboora, Imam Yusau Alobalowo; Chief Imam of Pako; Chief Imam of Idofin; Chief Imam of Igbole; Chief Imam of Okeiserin; and several other Islamic scholars.
Traditional and academic leaders present included the Oluaso of Iberekodo, Oba Jamiu Adedamola Badmos; Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ibadan; Rector, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora; Dr. Rasak Tijani, Hon. Abeeb Ibrahim and other notable personalities.
Guests described the late Alhaji Dr. Suraj Alabere as a compassionate professional, community leader and devout Muslim whose impact is still being felt two years after his passing.
The event ended with special prayers for the repose of his soul, and for Allah to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
