IPU COMMENDS OYO ASSEMBLY OVER OYSCATECH UPGRADE MOTION; APPEALS TO GOV. MAKINDE FOR EXECUTIVE ASSENT

The Igboora Progress Union (IPU) warmly commends the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin and other distinguished members of the 10th Assembly for their bold and progressive step towards upgrading the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, to a full-fledged university.

In a release signed by the IPU media officer, Tayo Akinyemi, dated 9th April, 2026, the  landmark development, deliberated upon on Wednesday , 8th April 2026 during plenary through a motion sponsored by the Speaker and co-sponsored by Hon. Peter Ojedokun, aligns with the yearnings of the sons and daughters of Igbooraland, Ibarapa and indeed all lovers of education who have consistently advocated for a university in Ibarapa zone— the only zone in Oyo State without one at the moment.

IPU notes with gratitude that this motion is a direct outcome of a recent strategic engagement with the Speaker by a high-powered delegation from Igboora led by His Royal Majesty, the Olu of Igboora and all other Royal Fathers in Igboora as well as the IPU President, Pastor Alex Oladeji (JP), the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government and the Rector of OYSCATECH, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi.

The Union deeply appreciate Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin for his responsive leadership and commitment to equitable educational development across Oyo State.

According to the statement, as aptly captured by the Speaker, the proposed upgrade of OYSCATECH will bridge the educational gaps currently existing, in Oyo State, enhance human capital development, and reposition the state as a hub for agriculture, technology and innovation.

OYSCATECH, since its establishment in 2006, has proven its capacity in manpower training and is certainly ripe for this transformation.

While thanking the House of Assembly for initiating the legislative process, the IPU passionately appeals to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, *Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE*, to graciously grant executive consent and support to this noble cause once the bill is passed.

According to them, Governor Makinde’s administration has shown uncommon commitment to education and infrastructural growth making the Union confident that his approval of this upgrade will not only fulfill the long-standing dream of the Ibarapa people but also cement his legacy as a governor who ensures no zone is left behind in the educational advancement of Oyo State.

The Union pledges continued collaboration with the State Government, the House of Assembly, Ibarapa Central Local Government, traditional institutions in Igboora and all lovers of progress to ensure the seamless transition of OYSCATECH to a world-class university and also prayed the  initiative brings lasting development and sustained progress to Igboora, Ibarapa  and Oyo State at large.
