Tension Rises in Eruwa as Youth Movement Warns of Powerful Protest Against Insecurity
The Eruwa Youth Movement (EYM) has announced plans to stage a protest against what it described as incessant burglaries plaguing the town, warning that residents can no longer endure the wave of insecurity threatening lives and livelihoods.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its President, Comrade Kazeem Tijani, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Oluwafemi Ogunshola, the group lamented that house and shop break-ins have become a daily occurrence, leaving hardworking youths and families devastated.
According to the movement, many young people who had labored in Zartech and across Nigeria to raise capital for businesses and investments in Eruwa have been stripped of their efforts overnight by criminals operating with impunity.
“What started as isolated incidents has now become a daily tragedy. The dreams of promising young men and women are being crushed by criminals who now operate without fear,” the statement read.
The group expressed frustration over what it called government inaction, despite previous engagements. It recalled that the Eruwa Youth Movement had organized a security summit attended by the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, but said no meaningful steps were taken afterward.
“The summit was funded from the pocket of EYM, yet the government failed to take meaningful action. Enough of promises without tangible results. Enough of betrayal of trust,” the statement added.
EYM warned that if no significant measures are taken within 72 hours, youths in the community may be forced to defend themselves. While stressing that they do not seek violence, the group insisted that their patience should not be mistaken for weakness.
“A powerful protest is coming. This is not a plea. This is a warning. This is a declaration that the youths of Eruwa will no longer fold their arms while criminals destroy their future,” the statement concluded.
The movement’s declaration has heightened tension in the community, with residents awaiting the government’s response to the ultimatum.
