Oke Oba Eruwa Development Union Presents Welfare Fund To Spinal Cord Accident Victim, Azeez Adebisi
ERUWA, OYO STATE – In a powerful display of community solidarity and the Yoruba omoluabi ethos, the Oke Oba Eruwa Development Union (OOEDU) today, Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, held a special ceremony to present a cash gift and announce a welfare fund appeal for Mr. Azeez Adebisi Abayomi, a spinal cord accident victim.
The event which took place at the L. A. Primary School Library, Oke Oba, Eruwa, was graced by several prominent personalities and community members. The gathering was a culmination of a successful fundraising campaign organized by the union earlier this year. According to the address delivered by Prince Julius O. Binuyo, the Coordinator of OOEDU, the occasion was one of mixed emotions, as it highlighted both the unfortunate circumstances of a fellow community member and the inspiring response from the community.
Mr. Adebisi Abayomi sustained a spinal cord injury in an accident approximately 13 years ago, which abruptly halted a promising career and a future filled with aspirations. His story, which had largely gone unnoticed, was brought to the forefront by a blogger known as “The Village Girl.” Her publications and passionate appeal sparked the interest of the OOEDU leadership, who were moved to action.
In his address, Prince Binuyo expressed profound gratitude to the blogger and all who contributed to the cause. “The crux is that the leadership of Oke Oba Eruwa Development Union got attracted into his affairs sequel to the publications of the village girl. She threw the challenge of even soliciting for food items and cash donation for him. So, we owe her a lot of gratitude,” he stated.
The union’s efforts have already yielded significant results. The leadership confirmed that they have successfully paid for Mr. Adebisi’s first and second surgeries in full and have been providing personal monitoring and support. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Excel Microfinance Bank, the union has secured a plan to ensure Mr. Adebisi’s comfort for at least the next year.
OOEDU outlined Mr. Adebisi’s urgent and ongoing needs, which form the basis of the new welfare fund appeal, including a more comfortable and accessible accommodation with facilities like toilets and bathrooms designed to ease his mobility, tech-friendly mobility aids such as an automated wheelchair, buggy, rechargeable lamps, and other essential electronics, as well as a continuous source of sustenance, including food supplies and personal care services.
In a direct appeal to the government, the union has requested the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa East Local Government, Alhaji Kazeem Arogundade, to consider providing Mr. Adebisi with an automatic employment opportunity within the local government services.
Looking to the future, OOEDU has announced plans to establish a Welfare Trust Fund to support similar cases within the community, ensuring that they are better equipped to handle such emergencies.
The union has also published Mr. Adebisi’s bank account details for direct donations. Account Name – Azeez Abayomi Adebisi, Account Number – 1100-345-408, Bank – Excel Microfinance Eruwa.
Prince Binuyo concluded the event by expressing his sincere appreciation to all financial donors, moral supporters, and prayer partners who have placed their trust in the union’s welfare project. “May God almighty bless all of us,” he said.
