BARR OPEYEMI TIJANI CONGRATULATES AKEEM ABAS ON EMERGENCE AS OYO NUJ CHAIRMAN

An Ibarapa-born legal practitioner and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Barrister Opeyemi Tijani (BOT), has extended warm and heartfelt congratulations to Comrade Akeem Babatunde Abas on his election as the new Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.

Comrade Abas emerged victorious in a keenly contested election held today, securing a decisive mandate with 143 votes. He defeated his closest rivals, the outgoing State Secretary of the union, Mr. Sola Oladapo, who garnered 59 votes, and Mr. Raji Adebayo, who polled 118 votes.

In his congratulatory message, Barrister Tijani hailed the election as a testament to democratic principles and the collective confidence of the journalistic community in Oyo State. He described Comrade Abas as a seasoned media professional whose leadership would usher in a new era of progress, unity, and enhanced welfare for journalists across the state.

“On behalf of myself, political associates, the entire people of Ibarapa, BOT rejoices with Comrade Akeem Babatunde Abas on this well-deserved victory. His emergence is a reflection of his competence, dedication, and the trust his colleagues have in his capacity to lead. I have no doubt that his tenure will foster stronger collaboration between the media, government, and civil society for the advancement of Oyo State,” Barrister Tijani stated.

The new NUJ Chairman, Akeem Babatunde Abas, is the son of the Oyo State APC Chairman, Alhaji Moshood Olayide Abas. He hails from Igboora in the Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Barrister Tijani also commended the NUJ for conducting a peaceful, transparent, and credible election, and urged all contestants and members to rally behind the new leadership for the greater good of the union.

He wished Comrade Abas a successful and impactful tenure, filled with achievements that would elevate the standards of journalism and the welfare of practitioners in Oyo State.
